GAT(GRADUATE ASSESSMENT TEST (GENERAL)

GAT is a test for determining the caliber of a student for Postgraduate Studies.

Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan requires that an applicant for higher education in Pakistan must have qualified GAT General: HEC has assigned the job of taking GAT examination (General and Subject) to National Testing Service (NTS) similar as GRE (General and Subject) is conducted by Educational Testing Service (ETS) USA.

GAT is commonly termed in Pakistan as GRE Local A good score of GAT is required for Local and Foreign Scholarships GAT is required for admission in MS/ M. Phil Programs.

The candidates will be required to apply for admission in the university as per their respective announcements along with a copy of the NTS result card.

ELIGIBILITY TO APPEAR FOR GAT GENERAL

Candidates with a minimum of “Sixteen years of Education” are eligible to appear in the GAT test.

VALIDITY OF GAT RESULT

The. Test Result of GAT remain valid for “ TWO YEARS”.

QUALIFYING SCORE OF GAT

HEC requires that scholars should pass NTS-GAT test with minimum 50% score but Universities can ask for more score as their policies.

GAT scores are used for Admissions in Graduate programs.

A good GAT score (more than 70%) is required in winning finical aid and Scholarship and admission in PhD program.

REAPPER IN THE GAT GENERAL

Candidates intending to improve their previous GAT score can Reappear.

INFORMATION REGARDING M.Phil/M.S AND PhD PROGRAMMES.

MINIMUM CAEDIT HOURS COURSE WORK

HEC requires minimum 24 credit hours course for M. Phil / MS degree and has recommended thesis of minimum 6 credit hours. However degree with 30 credit hours course work is also acceptable

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT OF CGPA FOR ADMISSION IN PhD PROGRAM One of the minimum requirement of the HEC for admission in PhD program is 1st class, minimum in M Phil / M.S. degree. However university can raise this score as par their policy.

COMPRAHENSIVE EXAM FOR PhD PROGRAM

A comprehensive Exam is requirement for all Doctoral programs.

The student must pass both the written and oral components after the completion of 18 credit. Hours Course Work.

Successful completion of both the comprehension exam and the PhD research proposal must be completed before a student can be granted Doctoral Candidacy status

Comprehension examination is mandatory and it should be qualified Qualifying score should be in accordance with the rules of the institution

TOTAL NUMBER OF QUESTIONS IN GAT

Total number of Question in GAT is 100 with 35 questions in Verbal Reasoning, 35 Questions in Quantitative Reasoning and 30 Questions in Analytical Reasoning.

REGISTRATION FOR GAT

The candidate is required to register for appearing in the test as scheduled by NTS. The registration process is given below:

Register (one time only) to NTS online.

Registration Portal Data cell. nts.org.pk

Upload a recent photograph in NTS online Registration Portal.

All candidates are required to upload their photographs with full face exposure.

Download bank deposit slip from NTS online.

Registration Portal Datacell.nts.org.pk (Bank deposit slip is available on NTS online Registration Portal only)

Deposit Bank deposit fee through bank deposit slip in the online branches of MCB, UBL, HBL, or ABL.

Enter bank deposit information into NTS online Registration Portal to further proceed your application.

Send the deposit slip to NTS Headquarter: (Islamabad Office), 1 – E, Street No. 46, I – 8/2, Islamabad.

Do not send any documents other than original bank deposit slip.

Registration on Test – Day

The registration of candidate on the day of test is not entertained.

The candidate should get register before the deadline as announced by NTS for a particular Test date.

REGISTRAION FEE

GAT registration Fee is Rs 1000/- to be deposited through the prescribed deposit slip at the online branches of ABL, UBL, HBL, or MCB.

DISPATCHE OF ROLL NUMBER SLIP BY NTS

The roll number slip will be dispatched by NTS about 10 days prior to the test date on your mailing address as mentioned on the Registration form.

 

RESULT OF GAT

NTS dispatch the result card within 7 days after the test date.

THINGS NOT TO BE TAKEN AND NOT TO BE DONE ON THE TEST DAY

Do not bring any other stationary item including rough / extra sheets as two blank sheets for rough work are placed inside the question booklet.

Do not bring calculators, mobile and wrist watches with calculator in the test center.

Shading / filling of two answers against single question is wrong. It will be marked ZERO.

Over writing and cutting near answer circle or anywhere on answer sheet will distract the readability and may be marked ZERO in the specific answer circle.

Use of any other material that is not provided by NT  will be illegal and subject to disciplinary action.

Do not write anything on question booklet except your NAME, ROLL NUMBER. And SIGN on the front title of question booklet before attempting the questions.

The questions booklet will be taken back after the test is over. So do not attempt to tear or remove any page from question booklet. No one is allowed to keep any part of it.

Every candidate is required to sign the attendance sheet, brought to her/ him by the invigilators. The roll number slips will also be collected by the same staff after the attendance is completed.

You are bound to NT discipline rules till you leave the tests center premises.

Do not ask the invigilation staff about the content of question. They are not allowed to explain or correct any question in the paper.

Any disturbance in any way caused by you will disqualify you from the test and NTS reserves the rights to carry out legal action against such attempt.
